Migrated messages from blog post.

November 12, 2009 7:33 pm, link

Great theme and advancements in design - making Wordpress more and more like a CMS. Describing it as complex is apropos. Took me a while to get my head around it. There are still some things that I had to guess at that are not covered in the video tutorials.

Suggestions: I strongly recommend adding a read.me file in the template that explains a)how to set it up and if there is anything you have to place elsewhere than the theme directory b)explain the relationships between categories, sections, pages, and posts.

Question: What I haven’t been able to figure out is previewimagepicker. Simply doesn’t seem to work for me - fortunately it is not a game killer for the website to lack it but it certainly would spice it up a bit. http://www.OpportunitySustainability.com

I thought it might be a 2.7 v 2.8 issue so I tried running it on a earlier platforms, but to no avail - I just kept getting illegal reference errors popping up on my admin screen. I’ve downloaded it again. Is it a file placement issue? Am I supposed to modify something? I am currently running WP 2.84 Caribou 1.0.6 with php5 and have tested it on WP 2.7-2.85. Any suggestions?

I understand this is not the place for tech support. As there seems to be little work being done lately on this site/forums/new designs, not sure if plopping down $50 is the right move. Now if you can tell me that there is an answer with a solution to my dilemma - I’m all for paying the “membership/service” fee.

Great product people.

Hi Matthew - not sure what’s going wrong with you on the preview image picker element of the theme. It will use WP’s normal uploads folders, so you need to have permissions set right so that it can create the thumbnails. However, if you can attach images to posts then all should be well.

Your images tend to be hotlinked - you need to have them within your blog for this to work, but if you can post your errors or send us a link to a screenshot we’ll log the problem.

Unfortunately in terms of support I can’t really help further unless you’re a member. We do have members and we actively check the forums, but so few have problems that there’s very little going on most of the time!

----------------------
Thanks Dave,

I've joined as a member. I've been uploading images to WP for new posts rather than hotlinking them.
Permissions, as far as I can tell are granted. 755 on the folders. And I am the admin and post as the admin.

Does any of the theme's subfolder content get moved during install? for example previewimagepicker.php (Besides leaving it where it is, I've tried placing it in the admin includes folder, in the plugins folder, the wp-includes folder - but none seemed to resolve the issue and usually sparked a flood of errors)

If need be, I can email you an admin username and password for you to log into the site.

Is there a path setting for previewimagepicker? Where is it pulling its information from? Is it an absolute path or relative path? I ask because my site has multiple domain names associated with it, though only one with respect to wordpress.

Here's another newbie question. Where do I paste the Google analytics code. Their instructions say past the code "immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track."
Uh. . . I can find the files in the editor but don't really know what I'm looking for.

Wordpress 2.9.1
Caribou: 1.0.6

I could paste it into the content for each page but seems it would be easier to put it in the page template.
Thanks.
Steve

I've removed widgets from 300px sidebar & added widgets to the 160px sidebar. The 300px sidebar didn't go away. In the Widgets area, the 300px doesn't have anything placed on it, but it is displaying several items (categories, pages, & meta). The 160px sidebar is below it & is displaying what it's supposed to. Can't seem to get rid of the 300px one, even with it's widgets removed.

Whats the trick to getting the hightlighted posts to show on the main page? The only area they are currently showing is if you view the 'Features' page.

I have posted 3 articles within the 'features' section, but wasn't sure if they should also be linked to a category? I have tried both ways, but neither choice allows the rotating features section to appear on the main page.

Change: Replaced all PHP5 specific elements in functions with code that will work on PHP4. Theme no longer fails to start on PHP4 systems.

Fixed: On section pages were only two posts are in the list below the highlight spot the category list would bunch up to the right of the second post.

Hi,

Hmm, this is a quiet forum! I am having a bit of trouble with the caribou theme (I've only been using it for one day, so be gentle with me)

1 Getting a logo in
I can upload a file 400 px by 110 px, but the text looks really pixelated? When I try to add a transparent gif or a png I get a black box. I can add a jpg, with the light blue (74D2FF) background, but there is a slight gradient so it looks rubbish at the bottom. Any suggestions?

2 Hiding things from the Navigation Bar
I have a couple of pages that I only want in the footer, so I've selected footer in the Write Page theme options, but it's still showing on the nav bar.

3 Numbers in the custom field box
Erm, not to be dim, but what do they mean?

Help? Or should I just stick with blend....
