Hi,

I am very happy with Blend 1.5 but can't get one thing to work. When I add to Links, I am using an Image for the logo. That looks great, but for some reason the link without the logo is also appearing in the upper right corner of the site: http://www.blueribbonaffair.org/ Any help is greatly appreciated!

Migrated messages from blog post.

November 12, 2009 7:33 pm, link

Great theme and advancements in design - making Wordpress more and more like a CMS. Describing it as complex is apropos. Took me a while to get my head around it. There are still some things that I had to guess at that are not covered in the video tutorials.

Suggestions: I strongly recommend adding a read.me file in the template that explains a)how to set it up and if there is anything you have to place elsewhere than the theme directory b)explain the relationships between categories, sections, pages, and posts.

Question: What I haven’t been able to figure out is previewimagepicker. Simply doesn’t seem to work for me - fortunately it is not a game killer for the website to lack it but it certainly would spice it up a bit. http://www.OpportunitySustainability.com

I thought it might be a 2.7 v 2.8 issue so I tried running it on a earlier platforms, but to no avail - I just kept getting illegal reference errors popping up on my admin screen. I’ve downloaded it again. Is it a file placement issue? Am I supposed to modify something? I am currently running WP 2.84 Caribou 1.0.6 with php5 and have tested it on WP 2.7-2.85. Any suggestions?

I understand this is not the place for tech support. As there seems to be little work being done lately on this site/forums/new designs, not sure if plopping down $50 is the right move. Now if you can tell me that there is an answer with a solution to my dilemma - I’m all for paying the “membership/service” fee.

Great product people.

November 14, 2009 2:34 pm

Hi Matthew - not sure what’s going wrong with you on the preview image picker element of the theme. It will use WP’s normal uploads folders, so you need to have permissions set right so that it can create the thumbnails. However, if you can attach images to posts then all should be well.

Your images tend to be hotlinked - you need to have them within your blog for this to work, but if you can post your errors or send us a link to a screenshot we’ll log the problem.

Unfortunately in terms of support I can’t really help further unless you’re a member. We do have members and we actively check the forums, but so few have problems that there’s very little going on most of the time!
Comment by Dave Coveney

----------------------
Thanks Dave,

I've joined as a member. I've been uploading images to WP for new posts rather than hotlinking them.
Permissions, as far as I can tell are granted. 755 on the folders. And I am the admin and post as the admin.

Does any of the theme's subfolder content get moved during install? for example previewimagepicker.php (Besides leaving it where it is, I've tried placing it in the admin includes folder, in the plugins folder, the wp-includes folder - but none seemed to resolve the issue and usually sparked a flood of errors)

If need be, I can email you an admin username and password for you to log into the site.

Is there a path setting for previewimagepicker? Where is it pulling its information from? Is it an absolute path or relative path? I ask because my site has multiple domain names associated with it, though only one with respect to wordpress.

Here's another newbie question. Where do I paste the Google analytics code. Their instructions say past the code "immediately before the </body> tag of each page you are planning to track."
Uh. . . I can find the files in the editor but don't really know what I'm looking for.

Wordpress 2.9.1
Caribou: 1.0.6

I could paste it into the content for each page but seems it would be easier to put it in the page template.
Thanks.
In the Widgets area, the 300px doesn't have anything placed on it, but it is displaying several items (categories, pages, & meta).

If you need to post an issue or question regarding one of our themes or plugins on this forum, you need to do the following:

1. Make sure you're in the right forum for that theme or plugin.
2. Create a new topic for each question - this helps others find problems and solutions.
3. Make sure you include the version number of the theme or plugin in use, the version of WordPress you're using and, if you can find it, the version of PHP and mySQL you're using. These all help us to reproduce the problem you're experiencing.
4. Add a link to the website in question, especially if the problem is in the display of the theme. If you're working on a closed development server, take a screenshot, upload it somewhere, and post the link instead - less useful, but still helpful.
5. Be patient - we don't watch the forums 24/7, sadly, but we do our best to respond promptly.

Thank you!

I am using the great Blend theme to build a website on wordpress (http://66.147.244.185/~adoptavi/) and after many updates with no problems, the emerald theme broke (navigation and photos everywhere). seems like some piece of code went missing. The only thing I can remember doing right before it happened is changing the name of the home page from Home to HOME. I have since deleted the theme and loaded it again, several times, and it always appears broken, but only with emerald (I've currently got it on coffee and cream.)

any suggestions??

I have posted 3 articles within the 'features' section, but wasn't sure if they should also be linked to a category? I have tried both ways, but neither choice allows the rotating features section to appear on the main page.

Many thanks for your help. I am looking to create a new class (head letter)in the css page but it doesn'twork. I give you the code:
.lettrine {
color:#BBCBD1;
float:left;
font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;
font-size:5.1em;
margin:-7px 4px -14px 0;
}
Do you know why? By the past i have been using it in a mimbo theme and it worked very well, so if you have an idea about the way to do...

Hi all - well, it looks like since we quietly re-opened our doors to memberships things are picking up. Slowly at first, and I'm sure it'll continue like that for a while, but we didn't expect a massive rush. A big thank you to those who have joined as a way of supporting our projects - it really helps to reassure us that going GPL was the right decision.

Older members who paid to download themes will also find that they have had their memberships updated and extended until next year. That's a thank you for your early support.

The key thing now is to get the word out there! If you like our themes, give them good star ratings on the WordPress.org repository, but also encourage people to join. We reckon we can build a nice new theme variation for every 100 new users, and that we can create a whole new theme framework for every 500 users. That's a lot of people, but it's certainly possible. If people contribute through code then perhaps this can be brought down somewhat.

Either way, we're now looking forward to creating a real and helpful community here. Let's get going!

Just want to check this with our members before making it official, but here's the new plan:

Withdrawal of current version of Caribou to be replaced with a slightly cut-down version.
All WordPress themes to be licensed under the GPL compatible WTFPL and freely available to download.
One price only access for support and assistance for six months (likely to be around the £30/$50 mark).

More sophisticated, non-GPL items available by direct order from Interconnect IT (the Spectacu.la parent company) on an individual and per-case basis. Consider that to be consulting and service related work with SLAs and the like, rather than ad-hoc forum support which comes on Spectacu.la

Members who paid up to the Intermediate level of membership will be changed free of charge.
Members who paid for the levels above will be refunded the difference.

All this is as a result of the recent blow-up over the WordPress.org repository and how we perceive business risks. We believe that with the deepening integration of WordPress.org's repositories into the WordPress product there's a big risk that third parties who don't play by Matt Mullenweg's rules stand a big chance of being frozen out of the market. We were only just getting started when the great withdrawal occurred, at which point we'd invested quite a lot which we're nowhere near close to recouping. But it left our three year plan in tatters.

It means that Spectacu.la can no longer provide themes with any sense of exclusivity about them, but there's nothing to stop you approaching us (or another designer) to do this for you.

Investment into Spectacu.la will be reduced, somewhat, but we'll still be filtering some of our great tech developed for clients into it, along with a license that grants even more freedom than the GPL - the WTFPL v2 - I suggest you look it up... it's the simplest and best free license you can find!

We'll be implementing these changes in the coming month or two.

As a business Interconnect IT's primary focus is to continue with corporates and to investigate the leverage of web technology such as WordPress in that sphere - Spectacu.la will be as much a showcase for our talents as a business in its own right. If it makes a profit, great! But profit is no longer the primary driver behind Spectacu.la - great themes will continue to be, however, even if investment is reduced slightly.

Whaddaya think?

Sorry if I missed it but is there a way to order the pages as shown in the sidebar widget? I've got the order (non alphabetical) in the Nav Bar but would like the widget to match.

Hello all and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

Would it be possible to add the code for a comments feed for single post pages along with the accompanying RSS icon for a future update to Evening Sun? Readers usually appreciate a way to monitor for any additional comments made to a post they commented on themselves since not all bloggers provide a way to do so (like using the Subscribe to Comments" plugin for example). Or, barring that, what would be the best way to add that myself?

Like many themes, Evening Sun lacks simple page navigation links for single post pages. What I mean by this is the links to the previous post (title) and next post (title) commonly found on each single post page in a blog type set up.

Seeing as how Evening Sun doesn't incorporate a "single.php" but instead uses "index.php" for all pages single and otherwise, what would be the best way to add this simple page navigation for single post pages? The usual navigation type plugins that are supposed to add this feature simply add too much in my opinion and I like to keep my plugins to a minimum.

Thanks.

You'll see that we're slowly implementing various changes, including the introduction of our first little monster - these friendly but hairy little fellas will be representing us around the place, on adverts and so on.

The monsters are the creation of Jon Reilly, an illustrator from Northwich, Cheshire. He's well known for his work on many top computer games, and his graphics will be introduced into some of our forthcoming themes - you'll see some very cool stuff soon :o)

Since there doesn't seem to be an "Evening Sun support" catagory yet, I'm posting this in "Feedback".

I'm currently using the Evening Sun theme on my personal site; just-thinkin.net . The theme is definitely high quality and beautiful to say the least but one rather glaring problem stood out. There was no white space between paragraphs in either comments or the sidebar (IE: text widgets).
If someone made a comment or I added a text widget using just html text and this text was separated into two paragraphs, both paragraphs were rendered as one single paragraph. This took away from the over all looks of the theme itself.

So I added the following to the "typography.css" file:

p {
margin: 10px 0; padding: 2px;
}

#content p {
margin: 5px 0 10px; padding: 0;
}

#sidebar p {
margin: 5px 0; padding: 0;
}

This takes care of the problem nicely. Just wanted you folks to know.

By the way, I'm assuming all such modifications should go into the "typography.css" file rather than the "style.css" file. If otherwise, please let me know.

Hi all,

Looks like I've just joined a rather elite group here. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself since I've just been graciously granted entrance to the club (first "club" I've ever been a member of at that and thanks!).

I'm a disabled veteran (ex-Cold War submariner [US Navy]) and a computer/peripherals/R&D type of guy who rode the so-called "crest of the wave" in computers during the final 2+ decades of the Cold War. Approximately 4 years ago I brought my "geek" back out of the closet when I became interested in WordPress and haven't looked back since (much to my wife's dismay...even though she has a degree in computer systems management...go figure).

I'm not a programmer per say in that I could never sit down and write an entire theme from scratch. But I'm one heck of an experienced troubleshooter and can usually fix most basic CSS and PHP problems myself. A bit like being able to speak French or Spanish but not being able to write it.

I also administer/upgrade/fix problems and do installs for non-tech WordPress bloggers. In fact, I'm bringing two more brand new WP sites online over the next few days once I get the owners familiar with the basics.

Strangely enough, one of the things I've noticed over the time I've been doing this is that more and more folks my age (around 50 +/-)are getting into their own custom WP installs. In fact, all of the people I do work for are my age or older. Any more of these "clients" come my way and I'm going to have to go legit. Egad, that means paperwork(ugh)!

Okay, that's enough. You'll also find that I'm a wordy bas**** which comes from writing tech manuals for a number of years.

Looking forward to the next 6 months.

There's a few issues to be resolved yet, but you can spy an early version of the forthcoming Grassland 2.0 theme at http://liverpoolwebdesigner.com - it's on the same branch as Evening Sun, so has all the same features, but with some further refinements.

Grassland is rapidly becoming a favourite theme of bloggers, so we thought it worth developing further.

Hi,
I love the Blend template and have already installed it on my site! (a cafe review site -- it's as if Blend was custom made!)

There's just one small quirk to Blend -- when I activate the "Search" widget, the search box appears on the main page but the box is quite small and is accompanied by the following text

Sorry: Either hit the back button on your browser or use this search form to find what you where looking for.

Is there a solution to this?

Thanks

Just been looking around and found some interesting customisations of the Grassland theme:

http://www.umlv.net/blog2/ - totally unexpected look with oranges and blue
http://lyon-sauvage.com/ - not really a massive development, but hey :o)
http://www.unautrejour.fr/blog/ - I believe this is in Mali, where these are popular colours - doesn't work well with Western eyes, but that's not the point
http://les5roues2lamain.gazaniol.fr/ - very interesting treatment of the header

One thing you'll notice is that they're all French language sites. Similarly, Anvil was most popular in Russia. It shows how key nodes influence a theme's popularity...
